This Paintballs Review page condenses players opinions
on various brands of paint to help you select the best paintballs.
Your choice of paintball depends on the game you will be playing. If you are
playing woodsball, you want paint that is strong enough to make it through tall
grass if someone is lying down, yet break on your opponent.
The shell color should be visible after it leaves the gun so you can make
firing adjustments, and the fill should be bright to contrast with the woods. A
pink fill and bright shell might be the best choice for this. With a dark fill,
your opponent might just wipe it off because nobody can see it.
One paintball that works well for one player and one marker setup, may not
work for you or your marker setup. That said, some brands of paint still are
better than others, as some get better reviews than others.
One way to figure out the best paintball for you is to buy 500 count boxes of
half a dozen different ones, and see which break in your gun.
Also check the accuracy, and see if they bounce or break on a target.
Some brands glow in the dark for night play. Others are made for
colder weather. To discourage cheating, some brands of tournament grade
paintballs are resistant to wiping off.
You can test your paintball using a
bounce test that measures how fragile it is, and actually change
its properties.
Tips for Buying Paintballs
• Storing: To extend the shelf-life and to
minimize breaks in your marker, prevent warping by storing the paint at room temperature, not in
the trunk of your car. Paintballs absorb water causing them to warp, so keep
them well wrapped in a dry place.
• Don't buy the cheap paintballs; they
will break in your gun, hopper, pod, or barrel.
• If your gun has a sensor eye, don't buy
black paint; it may not sense well.
• Paint that is hard to wipe is good for
tournament use; cheaters can't wipe it off.
• The standard paintball size is .68 caliber; don't buy
the wrong size for your gun.
